Carol Vorderman sadly lost her mother, Jean, to cancer just three months ago. The TV star took to twitter earlier this month to share the sad news with her followers on the day of her mum’s funeral.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror recently, the 56-year-old confessed that she still hasn’t come to terms with her mother’s death. “I was about to text her this morning and then thought: “I can’t” she said.
Carol also revealed that her mother, who was 88 when she passed away, had left her a letter to open after her death. However, as she continues to struggle with her grief, the former Countdown presenter admitted she can’t bring herself to open it yet.
“At the moment I’m just telling myself she’s gone on holiday. But she’s left me a letter which she wrote for me to read after her death, which I haven’t read yet.” Carol revealed. “It’s for me to read in private – and when I do, that will be when the floodgates open.”
Carol has now returned to work following the death of her mother, as she begins to promote this year’s Pride Of Britain Awards. Vorderman will present the Awards on ITV in October.
Speaking on ‘Good Morning Britain’ this week, Carol paid tribute to her supportive mum, “She was an amazing lady and was always with me. She’s worked with me since I was 25 and lived with me, so I miss her terribly.
“But there was nothing left unsaid or undone, and as she would say, “Its not a tragedy, I’m nearly 89 and have had a great life.”‘

Jean Vorderman had battled three different forms of cancer over the last decade of her life. As well as fighting skin and kidney cancer, Carol’s mother also had to have an ovarian tumour removed. Announcing the news of her mother’s passing, Carol wrote, “You will always be loved.”
