Grab some tissues, things are about to get emotional...

The There’s nothing more that we love then a bit of good old-fashioned romance. And you don’t get a much more romantic moment than a proposal.

Proposals have come a long way since the old down-on-one-knee-at-the-local-restaurant approach. And cue cards, a rooftop filled with balloons and even a surprise flash mob all factoring into these elaborate plans.

For all the romantics out there… Enjoy!

The one where he proposes… with a puppy!

Puppies and proposals – a match made in heaven! When Aly went out for a simple family dinner with her boyfriend Jake the last thing she expected was to come home an engaged woman. But as the couple took a romantic stroll along the beach before their meal, she got the surprise of her life.

Jake had created a wooden arch on the sand with the hastag #adventuresofjakenaly. The couple had created the hastag months earlier to symbolise all the trips they had been on. Framed pictures of the couple and white candles surrounded the arch. Jake had volunteered with an organisation that trains service dogs, so managed to borrow a puppy as part of the proposal. What a guy!

The one where he proposes Monica and Chandler style

The infamous Friends apartment. The engagement for the real-life ‘Ross and Rachael’ couldn’t be anywhere else! The caring folks at Comedy Central let  Krunal Desai stage his special moment on bended knee during FriendsFest in London. Krunal recreated the famous scene from the show when asking on-off girlfriend of 11 years Radha, who loves the show so much she watches it every night before bed, to be his wife. Could be BE any cuter?!

The one with the in-flight marriage and proposal

Not only did old romantic Jurgen Bogner propose to his girlfriend while the couple were flying over to Athens, he also arranged a mid-flight ceremony! He had everything arranged, from the rings, to the flowers, to the dress. A bold move!

The one with elaborate dance routine

In March 2012, Roger Taylor surprised his girlfriend Jeanie Jagpal, right in the centre of Picadilly Circus, London. As they strolled through the busy spot, an 100-strong choir broke into song around the couple, backed by over 200 dancers that Roger had recruited via Facebook. With the choir belting out ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’ by Frankie Valli, Roger started to join in and it quickly dawned on an astounded Jeanie that this whole spectacle was in her honour. Naturally, she said yes.

The one with the memes

Timothy Tiah may have gone down the traditional restaurant route, but he put his own special spin on it by surprising his girlfriend Audrey with a series of cue cards referencing their favourite characters, from Puss In Boots to fist-pump baby.

The unexpected one

“Steven and I probably broke up five times in our first nine months of dating. He was always late, loved hanging out with his boys, just didn’t seem to have enough time for me. I told him that I didn’t think he was in it for the long haul, so it was best to end it for good. So when we broke up for the final time, I thought that was it. Two days after we split up, I met up with about five or six of my girlfriends at a local bar for my friend Jessica’s birthday. We were kicking back, laughing and having a few drinks, while listening to some bad karaoke singers.

When I heard, ‘Next up on the stage, Steven.’ I didn’t think twice about it since Steven is a popular name. But when I looked up, I saw MY Steven. He began to belt out, Bryan Adams’ ‘Everything I do (I Do It For You)’ and I was in shock. At the end of the song, he said into the mic, ‘Cherise, I just wanted you to know that I AM in it for the long haul.’ And there, on the stage in front of everyone, he asked me to marry him” Cherise (source: sheknows)

The colourful one

If you’re going to propose to superstar diva Mariah Carey, you better have a strong game plan! Evidently, Nick Cannon agreed, and came up with an POA that involved not one, but TWO proposals. The Empire State Building was the first stop. Her favourite colours, pink and purple lit up the iconic building. A trip to the rooftop of Mariah’s apartment was the next stop. Pink and purple balloons and candy covered singer’s home. He offered Mariah a candy ring, but inside was a gorgeous diamond sparkler. Next, they jetted off for a romantic helicopter ride around the New York, during which Nick proposed again. As you do. Romantic? Perhaps. Ridiculous? Certainly. And Mariah loved it – at least we think she did!

The one with the jitters

Proposing to your other half is nerve-wracking at the best of times, so just imagine if you’re also asking her to become the future Queen of England! The moment thousands had been waiting for happened on a romantic break to Kenya. But prior to popping the question, Wills was actually a tad nervous… “I had been carrying it [the ring] around with me in my rucksack for about three weeks before that and I literally would not let it go, everywhere I went I was keeping hold of it because I knew this thing, if it disappeared, I knew I would be in a lot of trouble!” he joked.

It was the pairs’ love of nature that made Africa the natural choice for the proposal. “I didn’t really plan it that far in advance, like I just knew I wanted it to feel comfortable where I did it and I wanted it to mean something, other than just the act of getting engaged,” he said. “She understands what it means to me being in Africa, and my love of conservation.”

The one on the tube

Lucy Rogers was on her way home from work, on the 19.57 overground train to Watford Junction, completely minding her own business. We’re sure she thought it a little bit peculiar when a group of commuters started singing Bill Withers’ ‘Lovely Day’ spontaneously.

It wasn’t until her boyfriend, Adam King, showed up that she realised she was much more than an amused spectator.

Adam had been planning the elaborate proposal for months, enlisting the help of his choir mates from Adam Street Choir. The group had been rehearsing diligently, with King even building a replica of the carriage to make sure everything would go perfectly.

The one that started with an argument

“My boyfriend took me for a walk through a hay field (even though he was allergic to hay!) but he knew how much I loved being outdoors. We were talking about everything under the sun, but I could tell he was a little off, so I asked him what was up. He asked me if I actually really liked him, I, of course. He asked me what I thought of him, and I said that he was absolutely perfect. So I then asked what he thought of me. He said I was almost perfect. I was a little shocked and pretty mad at his comment. ‘ALMOST perfect?’ I asked. And he told me there was something I needed to change. At this point, I was thinking he was a bit of an idiot. ‘Oh yeah, what’s that?’ I asked.
He then got down on one knee pulled out the ring and said, ‘Your last name. Will you marry me?'”Country Girl (source: sheknows)
