jilted at the altar

We all know how annoying it is when you’re sitting at dinner with someone and instead of talking to you they are constantly on their phone! Well imagine how much worse this would be if that friend was, instead, your new bride?!

According to the Gulf News this is exactly the scenario that played out for one newlywed whose innocent post wedding text exchanges led to a shocking decision that would change everything.

Just minutes after walking down the aisle and exchanging vows with her future husband, the bride in question was divorced – yes you heard that right – divorced on her wedding day – for choosing texting over talking once the couple had returned to their hotel room.

According to the article while the bride’s husband had hoped they could use this time to bond as a couple, it seems that the bride was more focused on checking in with friends via text. So focused, in fact, that she didn’t seem to pick up on her husband’s growing annoyance at playing third fiddle to her army of friends.

“Her groom tried to get closer with her and become more intimate, but he was shocked when she ignored him, not responding to his words and action,” an anonymous relative told a local paper.

They continued: “When he asked her about the reasons, she answered she was busy communicating with her friends who were congratulating her on her marriage on the mobile.”

And if you thought it couldn’t get any worse, you’d be wrong….

“The groom asked her to delay the messages, but she refused and became angry. When he asked her if her friends were more important than he was, the bride answered that they were,” the relative added.

Rather than taking a time out from the situation to consider his response, the groom decided to tell the bride he was divorcing her before making a dramatic exit out of the hotel room.

Hitched and ditched on the same day…you couldn’t make it up!

And sadly for the bride the opportunity to kiss and make up wasn’t even on the cards, with her soon-to-be ex-husband announcing that he was “too hurt in his pride” to forgive her.

What do you think? Was the groom to quick to react? Or was he right to make a stand after being ignored in favour of text messages?! Let us know by joining the conversation on our Facebook page here!
