Ciarán Devane, Chief Executive for Macmillan Cancer Support says: “All of us at Macmillan are delighted to work with Woman’s Own to launch the Role Model Awards and showcase such inspiring women who make a difference to other people’s lives. Amongst them will be some of Macmillan’s own amazing campaigners, fundraisers and volunteers, people who go the extra mile and make sure patients don’t face their cancer alone. I do hope you will be inspired to get involved, read about our Not Alone campaign, donate and raise money for Macmillan so we can continue to support those facing the toughest fight of their lives.”

No one should face cancer alone
There are over two million people in the UK living with cancer and this is set to double by 2030. Macmillan wants to reach and improve the lives of every one of these people.
Their research shows that more than one in five people living with cancer in the UK – an estimated 400,000 people – suffer with loneliness as a result of their cancer. Many are left housebound and unable to feed themselves properly.
That’s why they’ve launched their Not Alone campaign.
Macmillan offers the following services to people affected by cancer:
– Macmillan health professionals including nurses and GPs
– Emotional and practical support through a free confidential helpline (0808 808 0000)
– Support groups, including an online community
– Information via leaflets or the website www.macmillan.org.uk
– Financial support in the form of grants and benefits
