Man laying loft insulationQ: I’ve heard it’s too late to apply for free loft and cavity wall insulation from energy companies – is that right?

A: No, not yet. But you’ll need to apply TODAY if you want to ask EDF if you’re eligible for the free insulation and by the end of November if it’s British Gas you’re approaching.

You don’t need to be a customer, but you will need to meet certain requirements. For example, you probably won’t be eligible for either loft or cavity wall insualtions if you have a large (five-bedroom plus) property or already have insulation of some kind. However, it’s always worth asking the question.

If you don’t qualify for free insulation for whatever reason, you can still get discounted installation with all of the major energy companies, plus many local authorities also have grants available to local residents to help them pay for energy efficient measures. Try The Energy Saving Trust website for more information on discount and grants.
