Q I am 38, my husband is 40, and we have been trying for a baby for a year. Is there anything in particular my husband should be doing?
A Both partners can change their lifestyles to improve their chances of conceiving – for men, stopping smoking can improve fertility and reducing alcohol to maximum 3-4 units per day can also help.
Eating a good well-balanced diet and trying to reduce stress can increase libido and sperm production.
Also, your husband should avoid tight-fitting Y-fronts to help sperm production as the testicles are cooler in looser-fitting boxer shorts, which is good for sperm.
For both partners, although it sounds obvious, having lots of sex, especially around ovulation in a woman’s cycle, is key.
