*Norma passed away on October 1st 2016. This was posted by her family in her memory. RIP Norma.

March 3rd 2016

When pensioner Norma was told she had terminal cancer she decided to decline the lifesaving treatment on offer.

In fact, her exact words were: ‘I’m 90-years-old, I’m hitting the road.’

Unconvinced that spending the next however many months in hospital bed undergoing painful surgery was her best option, Norma chose adventure instead.

With her son Tim, daughter-in-law Ramie and a poodle named Ringo by her side, Michigan-born Norma hit the open road in a camper van six months ago… and hasn’t looked back.

Remarkably, her doctor actually encouraged the trip.

While the surgery for Norma’s uterine cancer may have potentially saved her life, due to her age and the inevitable risks, it also could have killed her.

And it turns out that her symptoms have actually eased while she’s been taking in the sights of Europe, the US and China.

‘Norma currently is not in pain and her mind is sharp. She loves to travel, and she is remarkably easy to be around,’ wrote Ramie on the Driving Miss Norma Facebook page.

‘We explained to the well-meaning doctor and his student that we live in an RV and that we will be taking her wherever she wants to go.’

Norma’s husband and love of her life Leo recently died from the same disease and, according to Ramie, Norma found it incredibly difficult being at home without him.

Now, she has taken the opportunity to leave all that behind her and go on the trip of a lifetime. This quote, shared on Norma’s Facebook page, sums it up perfectly:
