Here at Woman's Own we take our tea very seriously.
And whether it’s short and strong, with full fat milk and sugar or just a dash of semi-skimmed, everyone has their own version of the perfect cuppa.
However, scientists are now claiming to have settled the debate that’s been long argued by a nation of tea drinkers.
According to the Royal Society of Chemistry, to make the perfect cup of tea the milk has to go in FIRST.
The reasoning behind this is that when milk is exposed to high temperatures, like boiling hot tea, its proteins degrade, producing a slightly stale taste.
Other tips include warming the teapot first to produce ‘softer’ water and letting it brew for exactly 3 minutes.
Loose leaves, rather than tea bags, are also essential for a perfect cuppa, as bags “slow down the infusion”.
So now you know!
