Recipe - lentil and tomato dahl


Looking for a different side to accompany your curry? Whip up a lentil and tomato dal this weekend, it’s ready in 15minutes and only 76p per serving. 



1tbsp vegetable oil

1 onion, thinly sliced

1 celery stick, sliced

2 garlic cloves, sliced

1tbsp mild curry paste

400g can chopped tomatoes

400g can green lentils, drained

4 naan breads, to serve

1 tub raita, to serve

Serves: 4

Cook time: 15 mins

Cost per serving: 76p



1. Heat the oil in a medium-sized pan and fry the onion and celery for 5 mins until transparent and tender, but not coloured.

2. Add the garlic and curry paste, fry for 1 min, then add the tomatoes and lentils.

3. Bring to the boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 mins until thickened. Serve with warmed naan bread and raita.
