The perfect cream team isn’t just cold scones with a spoonful of cream, it’s much more than that! Lidl’s Chef-in-Residence Kevin Love has shared with us his tips for the the ultimate Sunday afternoon treat! Perfect for sharing with friends or eating alone, these toasted cream tea buns will leave you wanting more!
Serves: 4-6 people
Prep time: 5 mins
Cook time: 1-2 mins
What you need:
90g strawberry jam
90g clotted cream
pinch of tea infused sugar (optional)
What to do:
Cut the scones in half and butter each half with a very thin layer of butter
In a frying pan over a medium heat, add the scones butter side down and toast until golden
Divide the jam between the scones 15g per scone in an even layer leaving a rim around the edge
Next is the clotted cream, this is also to be divided between the scones evenly 15g per scone and again leaving a rim of jam
which will mean the cream layer is a little thicker than the jam.
Sprinkle with tea sugar if using (recipe below) and serve while still warm with your favourite pot of tea!!
For the tea infused sugar:
For the tea sugar simply take your favourite flavoured tea such as the deluxe peppermint and licorice and add the contents of 2 teabags to a container of 100g sugar, you can also add some zest such as lemon,lime,orange,grapefruit whatever you like. seal the container and shake it, and allow the flavours to infuse. The sugar will last for weeks and can be used for baking or to garnish cakes etc and the flavour combinations are endless!!
