Phillip Schofield and Christine Bleakley Strictly Come Dancing had one of its most successful series yet in 2012, with over 14 million viewers tuning in for the final in December, which saw Olympic gymnastics star Louis Smith crowned as the king of the dancefloor.

Now, it’s the turn of rival ITV show Dancing on Ice to come back to our screens, and bosses are hoping to repeat the BBC show’s success.

As well as recruiting more Team GB stars in the form of fellow gymnast Beth Tweddle and gold medallist boxer Luke Campbell to sprinkle some magic on the ice, producers have also asked Mr Mean himself, Jason Gardiner, to return to the ice panel and boost flagging ratings.

It seems a controversial choice, as Karen Barber – who Jason famously had an on-air spat with – is also rejoining as a judge.

Meanwhile, jungle runner-up and former Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts has also been hired to join the judges in a bid to stir things up.

Show veteran Phillip Schofield will once more be joined by Christine Bleakley to present, but as her contract with the channel ends this year, there are rumours that this could be her last series.
