Fans of The Great British Bake Off have been hit with blow after blow in recent months.
As well as moving from the Beeb to Channel 4, GBBO viewers also had to wave goodbye to loveable judge Mary Berry and queen of the pastry pun co-hosts Mel and Sue.
And the consolation prize of holding on to Paul Hollywood…well….the jury’s still out on that one. But if you thought all this was the TV equivalent of a soggy bottom, then you’ll have to hold on to your apron strings for the Bake Off’s final presenting line up.
We already know that restaurateur, caterer, television presenter/broadcaster Prue Leith will be joining Paul at the judging table. So far, so credible.
So you can imagine our surprise when comedian Noel Fielding and comedian/presenter Sandi Toksvig were confirmed as the new ‘Mel and Sue’!

Naturally the Twitterverse joined us in a collective gasp, using their 140 characters to express their outrage at the decision:
don't know how desperate the BBC were in the meeting where they picked Noel fielding to be tgbbo host but Never heard a bigger cry for help

Noel Fielding on Bake off?
He must be there as the amused Boosh— Stephen Holford (@SteveSunshines) March 17, 2017
And on Sandi they had this to add:
With Sandi Toksvig as host of new #GBBO on @Channel4 I cannot watch it. She’s already ruined #QI for me, now this.

Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding are the new presenters of #GBBO… I know Mary and co are a hard act to follow, but seriously??? 😳😕

@tomstoneman Sandi Toksvig? SANDI TOKSVIG?? 😳
— Clare Edwards (@Bella132) March 17, 2017
Still, at least the presenters seemed happy about their new gig. Over to Noel:
“GBBO is one of my favourite shows,” he gushed.
“I’ve always loved brightly coloured cakes and Sandi Toksvig so this is a dream come true for me! It’s basically the double.”
And the final word goes to Sandi:
“It is an extraordinary honour to part of this national treasure of a show.”
What a time to be alive!
