Fans speculate ‘Is Meghan Markle engaged?’, amid the news of a romantic African holiday with boyfriend Prince Harry…
Ever the romantic, this past weekend Prince Harry whisked girlfriend Meghan Markle away to Africa, in order to celebrate her 36th birthday.
The couple jetted out of the country on Friday to spend some quality time together after Meghan turned 36 on 4th August. And given their long-distance relationship, the pair are clearly thrilled to be getting some time away together!
(After seeing these pictures, fans couldn’t help but speculate: Is Meghan Markle engaged?)
But the news of their surprise vacation has left many fans and royal watchers speculating whether THIS might be the moment Harry chooses to propose to the special lady in his life.
Engagement rumours have hounded the couple since they got together just over a year ago. But many have suggested that given how much Africa means to Harry, it could be the place he chooses to solidify his relationship with Meghan.
Africa has been a special place for the Prince since he was a child. His long relationship with the country began following the untimely death of his mother, Princess Diana, two decades ago. And since then, the royal has often spoken about how fond he is of the place.
He revealed, “I first came in 1997, straight after my mum died. My dad told my brother and me we were going to Africa to get away from it all.
“This is where I feel more like myself than anywhere else in the world. I have this intense sense of complete relaxation and normality here.”

The young royal has also spoken about how he hopes his love for Africa can be something he also shares with any potential future children.
In 2016, he confessed, “I have this love of Africa that will never disappear. And I hope it carries on with my children as well.” So could it be a fitting place to properly begin his and Meghan’s life together?
In an interesting twist of fate, the continent also appears to hold a special place in Meghan’s heart too. In 2016, the actress visited Botswana as part of her work with UNICEF. And following the trip, she openly admitted how much that part of the world meant to her.
“While my life shifts from refugee camps to red carpets, I choose them both because these worlds can, in fact, co-exist. And for me, they must. I never wanted to be a lady who lunches – I’ve always wanted to be a woman who works. And this type of work is what feeds my soul, and fuels my purpose.”
Given how many happy memories the couple have in the country, and how much Africa means to them both, many believe that it provides the prefect backdrop for Harry’s much anticipated proposal. So could Harry be set to follow in his brother’s footsteps, and pop the question in Africa?
In a post-engagement interview, William revealed the reason he chose to propose to long-term girlfriend Kate in Kenya, explaining how it holds a special place in his heart, just like Harry.
Speaking about his love of the country, he has said,“I regularly daydream. Africa is definitely one of the places I go to. It does completely settle me down. [Kate] understands what it means to me being in Africa, and my love of conservation.”
And chatting about his plans to propose there, he confessed, “I didn’t really plan it that far in advance. I just knew I wanted it to feel comfortable where I did it.”
So, could we see an engagement announcement from another Prince and his bride-to-be in the near future? Only time will tell…
