Although Leonardo DiCaprio’s quest for his long-awaited Oscar may have been the focus this award season, it was his displays of affection and red carpet moments with Kate Winslet that were the talk of the town.
The pair stole the show at the Oscars, when Leo couldn’t resist calling Kate over to him for photographs together, and it was an emotional Kate that the camera panned to when Leo stood on the stage for the first time in his career to collect his Oscar for ‘Best Actor’.

1997
Back where their friendship began, Kate and Leo’s infamous kissing scene in Titanic would become as iconic as the record breaking box-office hit itself!
When Leo was interviewed the year the film came out, he couldn’t help gushing about his leading lady and new best friend, “She’s such a terrific person in general and our chemistry naturally happened on screen” the 21-year-old said. “We just like each other as people. As far as doing a love scene, though, we laughed about it a lot.”
1998
Following the success of their first film together, Kate and Leo arrived at the Golden Globes together!
They were both nominated for awards for their performances in Titanic, but as the two young actors walked the red carpet arm-in-arm, everyone was more concerned about whether the two were more than ‘just friends’!
2005
When interviewed together at the SAG Awards in 2005, it was clear that despite not being papped together often, Kate and Leo’s friendship was still strong behind-the-scenes. Kate gushed about her friend.“I just feel so proud that you’ve turned into this really special person. You’re a really wonderful person.”
2007
Fast forward to 9 years after they first met, and Leo and Kate’s friendship looked as strong as ever when they were snapped at a Vanity Fair party. During an interview with Oprah in 2004, Leo was asked who his favourite leading lady was to kiss and the dashing actor coyly responded, “Oh boy…There’s going to be some mad actresses… I’m just going to go with Kate Winslet, good old classic.”
2008
Over a decade after they first appeared on-screen together, Kate and Leo were reunited for the film ‘Revolutionary Road’. The film, directed by Kate’s husband at the time Sam Mendes, saw the actors playing a couple once again.
“It’s great to work with one of your best friends, it really is.” Leo said when asked about working with Kate again, “I’ll always be looking to work with her again.”
2008
Kate won a Golden Globe award for her performance in Revolutionary Road, and in her acceptance speech emotionally paid tribute to her close friend “Leo, I’m so happy I can stand here and tell you how much I love you and how much I’ve loved you for 13 years. I love you with all my heart, I really do.”
2009
As the years passed, despite rumours that the pair may eventually become romantically linked, the actors remained firm friends.
Their deep respect and admiration for one another sets them apart from other Hollywood friendships.

2016
Fast forward to 2016, and Leo and Kate were once again the talk of the town – but not because they appeared in a film together!
As Leo won award after award for his gritty role in ‘The Revenant’, Kate was in the audience cheering him on, and was often the first person to jump up and congratulate him after his name was announced.
2016 – the Oscars
After spotting Kate on the red carpet ahead of him, Leo couldn’t help but beckon Kate over to him, and the two close friends posed together on the red carpet for photographs.
The pair as so close, that Leo even walked Kate down the aisle when she married her current husband, Ned. So sweet!
