Actress Claire King has recently made some controversial comments that could get her in trouble with company Smart Energy. King is associated with Smart Energy as she is a spokesperson for the brand.
The 56-year-old actress has recently been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, and also spoken out about how carers have been let down by the government.
In an interview with The Mirror, King said, “I do worry about when I’m older and becoming a burden on people around me.”
“I can understand why people choose assisted dying – and it’s getting to the point where I would consider it myself. I’m not going to be hurting any offspring as I haven’t got any.”
“Most of my family will be gone. It’s not a selfish thing. It’s a decision at a certain age, when you’re becoming a burden to others.”
However, King’s comments do not sound like they’ve gone down too well with Smart Energy. A source told the Sun, “They couldn’t believe her comments and definitely don’t want to be associated with any of that.”
“This could even lead to her losing her fee entirely.”
Smart Energy GB have declined to comment on the matter so far.
Claire King plays Erica Holyroyd on Coronation Street. The actress is leaving the cobbles after three years on the show this summer. However, it is rumoured that her role will be kept open should she want to return in the future.
