The Duke and Duchess are renowned for being incredibly competitive members of the royal family.
During the couple’s royal tour of India last spring, one of their aides was heard to audibly groan when someone suggested the couple take on each other at cricket in Mumbai – as he knew things would get tense as the royal pair would be determined to beat each other! The competitive streak that both Kate and William share was all too obvious again yesterday. The royal couple took on Prince Harry in a running race at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
The three royals were in good spirits as they took to the track for a fun event in aid of their charity ‘Heads Together’. The event was part of the work Kate, William and Harry are doing to eliminate the stigma around mental health.
The 100m sprint which Kate, William and Harry took part in was a part of the preparations and training for ‘Heads Together’ runners to race in the London Marathon to raise money for the charity later this year.
Always eager to be as involved as possible, Kate, William and Harry willingly donned trainers to take part in the day. Clearly feeling relaxed in the more casual set-up than they normally have for official events, the royal trio were cracking jokes before the start of the race.
With gritted teeth, the Duchess of Cambridge was clearly determined to try and beat her husband Prince William. However, the Duke and Duchess were no match for equally competitive Prince Harry, who left his brother and sister-in-law in his wake as he charged towards the finish line.
The sibling rivalry between the brothers has clearly not waned with age, as Prince Harry made sure to glance over his shoulder as he ran to check how far his brother was behind him.
Despite losing to the boys, the Duchess was all smiles at the finish line. Breaking the usual royal protocol upheld at formal events, [READ MORE HERE] Prince William lovingly looped his arm around Kate for a conciliatory hug after the race.
The trio also teamed up with world-record holder and three time London Marathon winner Paula Radcliffe. Also, British 400m record holder and London Marathon regular, Iwan Thomas.
Kate, ever stylish, wore a £280 quilted jacket by Perfect Moment for the occasion, along with her go-to black jeans and a comfy pair of trainers.
