It has been revealed that Kate met Prince Philip long before she would meet and fall in love with his grandson, Prince William, and go on to become the Duchess of Cambridge!

Kate’s chance meeting with the Duke of Edinburgh while she was still at school was explained in an ITV documentary about Prince Philip.

The documentary celebrated 60 years of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, which Prince Philip has supported and headed up from the very start.

“I remember trying to cook bacon in the soaking wet, and everything was just sopping. In the end I said ‘you know, I think we’re just going to have plain sandwiches that are just bread and butter!’”

Once Kate and her team had completed the trek, they achieved their ‘Gold’ standard Duke of Edinburgh award. As a result, they were invited to St.James Palace to receive it in person.

Meaning many years before she met Prince William, Kate met and chatted to the man who is now the great-grandfather of her two children!
