The BAFTA Awards 2017 will be no different. After rumours swirled that Kate and Prince William would attend the star-studded bash, Kensington Palace eventually confirmed that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would be in attendance.
Prince William has been the president of BAFTA since 2010. However, this will be his and Kate’s first time attending the BAFTAs in London. Previously, the pair attended a BAFTA ‘Brits To Watch’ event in LA in 2011.
After the gorgeous lavender gown by Alexander McQueen that the Duchess of Cambridge chose to wear in 2011, everyone was delighted to see Kate Middleton also chose the designer for BAFTA dress of 2017.
While all eyes on the red carpet were on Kate, Prince William also has an important role to play. During the evening, the Duke presented the BAFTA Fellowship, the Academy’s lifetime achievement award.
And while the night largely went off without incident, comedian Stephen Fry couldn’t resist a dig.
Mocking the Duke’s surprise family connection, he said:
“He is still recovering from devastating news he is related to Danny Dyer.”
Luckily the Duke and Duchess took it all in good spirits and chuckled along with the audience!
