John Torode and Gregg Wallace always put on a united front when hosting hit cooking show Masterchef, but it seems that it’s frying pans at dawn once the cameras are off!
Torode – who ironically was best man at Gregg’s wedding last year – revealed that his penchant for savoury delights – over Gregg’s obsession with sweet – isn’t the only dividing line between the pair.
‘It’s funny, we’ve never been friends. We’ve not been to each other’s houses,” he revealed.
Continuing on his rant about his co-host of 12 years, the 51-year-old vented:
“He’s so OCD, he wouldn’t know what to do.
“If we go away to somewhere like South Africa, we do things separately.
“If we do go out for a drink, I’ll invariably be at one end of a big old table and he’ll be at the other.”
Torode – who met Wallace at the early stages of his career working at London restaurant Quaglino’s, which served vegetables supplied by Wallace – also talked about the heated moments that arise as the duo try to come to an agreement over show contestants.
He told the Daily Mirror:
“We’ve had a couple of stand-offs over the years. I’ve just had to walk away from him.”
The celebrity chef’s comments seem even more of a surprise, as Wallace appeared to have nothing but positive words to say about him during a recent appearance on ITV’s Lorraine.
“I have a very close relationship with John,” he gushed.
The 52-year-old also described how Torode had come to his support during his challenging Strictly stint.
“I didn’t particularly enjoy Strictly – I phoned John in tears and said I was having a tough time.”
And reflecting on wedding to Anne-Marie Sterpini he added:
“People don’t realise how close we are – he was my best man – he’s close to me 7/8 months of the year. What’s great about the partnership is that if one of us is down the other perks us up.
“We’re very close to each other physically and emotionally. We trust each other,” he admitted.
We imagine there’s going to be one hell of an awkward moment when these two meet face to face for the next time!
