Jack’s tribute to Jade Goody
To ensure her memory continues to lives on her widower Jack Tweed posted two touching images of his late wife on Instagram last week.
Jade was diagnosed with the disease back in August 2008, and told a week later that the cancer had spread. She tragically died just a year later – leaving behind son’s Freddie and Bobby – devastating fans, family and friends and highlighting the critical importance of early screening.
Out of Jade’s untimely death came a positive impact that no one could have predicted. The ‘Jade Goody’ effect led to a surge in the number of women asking questions about cervical cancer.
Outlining this at the time Cancer Research UK revealed:
“Before Jade was diagnosed, the total number of pages viewed daily in our cervical cancer section was around 2,000 to 3,000. On the day of the news last year this jumped to over 32,000.”
Jade Goody’s battle
In early 2009 Jade spoke of her horror at learning her cancer was terminal, as well as describing her love for husband-to-be Jack. She said:
“I couldn’t breathe when they told me, just screamed and cried and said, ‘Can’t anyone do anything to help me!
“I love Jack with all my heart and I want to be his wife more than anything in the world. And I will be.”
The former Big Brother contestant got her wish when Jack proposed to her at her hospital bedside. The doting couple later married in a simple ceremony in front of family and friends.
