Today is a proud day to be British.

Not only do we have the impending arrival of a future monarch due any day (hour?) soon, but a whole host of our very own celebs have just been nominated for a bunch of Emmy Awards – the TV equivalent of the Oscars.

Downton Abbey leads the way with nods for Outstanding Drama, plus acting nominations for Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery and Jim Carter, while Homeland‘s Damien Lewis and presenter Cat Deeley are also in with a shout. Judy Dench and Helen Mirren will also be hoping to win a gong.

The Awards will take place in Hollywood on September 22nd.
