Cousin Matthew (Dan Stevens) and Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) in Downton AbbeyThe big guns are coming out on the Big Day as telly favourites Downton Abbey and Call The Midwife reveal their special episodes will screen on Christmas night.

In BBC1’s corner, there’s a festive special of the Fifties midwife drama with stars Miranda Hart and Jenny Agutter showing a grittier Christmas than we’re used to.

Meanwhile, on ITV1, the Crawleys decamp to a Scottish retreat in the summer holidays, with the servants left at the Abbey looking forward to a summer fair.

But luckily for drama fans, there won’t be fisticuffs on the sofa on the 25th as TV schedules currently show no clash between the shows, with Call The Midwife on at 7.15pm and Downton Abbey on at 9pm.

Although timings won’t be confirmed until nearer the time – watch this space – we’re looking forward to settling down to an evening of vintage TV!
