Chris Fountain suspended from Coronation Street

By Laura Hills

Coronation Street favourite Chris Fountain has been suspended from the ITV soap after he posted a series of offensive rap videos online.

Chris, who plays Tommy Duckworth on the show, appears as his masked rap alter ego ‘The Phantom’ in the videos and is heard swearing, boasting about violence and claiming to have sexually assaulted a woman.

A spokesperson for ITV said: ‘ITV find the language used and the views expressed in this video totally unacceptable. Chris Fountain has been suspended pending further inquiries into this matter.’

But the actor, 25, insists that he made the videos a long time ago releasing a statement which said: ‘I would like to sincerely apologise for any offence I have caused. I am deeply ashamed by the lyrics and very much regret my behaviour. The videos were made over a year ago when I was experimenting with music and I’ve not done anything like it since and nor will I.’
