There have been a lot of high-profile splits in Hollywood this year, and although there may be none more heartbreaking than that of Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck (READ MORE HERE) another couple coming to terms with the end of their partnership is Charlize Theron and Sean Penn.
The actors, who are both well established in Hollywood, were together for 18 months, and from the pictures things appeared to be going swimmingly, with Sean even spending time with Charlize’s four-year-old son, Jackson.
However, the couple confirmed that that their relationship had broken down last summer and the pair have now sadly split. Opening up for the first time about the end to the relationship, Charlize, 40, revealed “We were in a relationship and then it didn’t work anymore. And we both decided to separate. That’s it.’
Talking to WSJ Magazine about her time with Sean, the actress emphasised that they hadn’t got as serious as it first seemed, “We were very, very new in a relationship,’ she explained. “The stories that Sean was going to adopt Jackson, and all of that was not true. It’s not something that happens in 18 months. You can’t do that to a child.”
Charlize’s fierce and commendable focus on motherhood, and her plan to adopt another child, could have been one of the reasons that ultimately her relationship with Sean did not work. The actress has always emphasised that her main priority is being a good mother and growing her family, “In my honesty about wanting to have more kids, there was an understanding that a relationship had to go somewhere before it was going to be – what you hope for, which ultimately did not happen”
Charlize welcomed a second child, her baby daughter August, in July 2015, and the adoption was finalised less than a month after her split from Sean. The adoption process was well under way before then however, with Sean never intended to become the baby’s dad, “We had a very clear understanding. He knew that I was thinking about filing for another adoption, but that we weren’t filing together” the actress explained.
The mother-of-two said that she, “always knew” that she wanted more kids, but is she planning on adding any more little ones to her growing brood? “I don’t know.” She muses, “But I always knew I wanted more than one. Always.”
