Celine Dion recorded the love theme for the original Disney movie. Now, 26 years later the singer has returned to sing a brand new song for the remake starring Emma Watson and Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens.
However, returning to sing a song for the film of the much-loved story was not an easy decision for Celine. The award-winning singer lost her beloved husband, Rene Angelil, just over a year ago. Still coming to terms with the loss and mourning her late husband, being asked to be involved in a project that originally involved Rene was difficult for the star.
“My first Beauty and the Beast, the decision was made with my husband,” she tells Entertainment Tonight. “Now I’m making decisions on my own. It’s a little bit harder. I couldn’t say yes right away, because I felt like I was kind of cheating in a way.”
Celine and Rene had three sons together — René Charles Angelil, 16, and six-year-old twins Eddy and Nelson. Celine had to break the heartbreaking news of their father’s death to her twins last year. Read Celine’s emotional confession about that moment HERE.
“Love lasts forever”
Speaking at the premiere for the new live action version of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast in Los Angeles, the 48-year-old explained why she changed her mind. “The message in this movie is: how does a moment last forever? Love lasts forever.
“I’ve lost my husband a year and a couple of months ago, and he’s still with me.”
“It does stay forever,” she added to People magazine.
Celine also reflected that being a part of the original film helped her rise to fame over two decades ago “I was at the beginning of my career (when I performed Beauty and the Beast),” she says. “The song put me on the map. It put me where I am today.”
