Much-loved ITV presenter Ant Mcpartlin has opened up about his drug addiction for the first time since being discharged from a rehabilitation centre.

Talking to Dan Wooton for The Sun on Sunday, the 41-year-ild has described how problems following a botched knee operation in 2014 lead to his addiction to prescription painkillers. And, how that addiction almost killed him – before his wife and best friend Dec intervened to save his life.

“I was at the point where anything — prescription drugs, non-prescription drugs — I would take.

“And take them with alcohol, which is ridiculous” the TV presenter revealed in the open and honest interview.

“The doctors told me, ‘You could have killed yourself’.”

Now out of rehab after two months, Ant decided to share his story because he is keen to help others who have faced similar struggles. He wants to combat the stigma surrounding depression and addiction, to encourage other to seek help as he did.

The ‘I’m A Celebrity’ presenter revealed that eventually it was a serious intervention from his wife Lisa, followed by best friend Dec, that finally convinced him to seek help.
