Much-loved ITV presenter Ant Mcpartlin has opened up about his drug addiction for the first time since being discharged from a rehabilitation centre.
Talking to Dan Wooton for The Sun on Sunday, the 41-year-ild has described how problems following a botched knee operation in 2014 lead to his addiction to prescription painkillers. And, how that addiction almost killed him – before his wife and best friend Dec intervened to save his life.

“I was at the point where anything — prescription drugs, non-prescription drugs — I would take.
“And take them with alcohol, which is ridiculous” the TV presenter revealed in the open and honest interview.
“The doctors told me, ‘You could have killed yourself’.”
Now out of rehab after two months, Ant decided to share his story because he is keen to help others who have faced similar struggles. He wants to combat the stigma surrounding depression and addiction, to encourage other to seek help as he did.
The ‘I’m A Celebrity’ presenter revealed that eventually it was a serious intervention from his wife Lisa, followed by best friend Dec, that finally convinced him to seek help.
“It was five in the morning and I was screaming in pain so I rang Lisa.”
“I said, ‘You’re going to have to call me an ambulance. I’m in a bad way’.
The award-winning TV star admitted that despite hiding his addiction from those closest to him, when they discovered the severity of his situation, they were swift to intervene.
“Dec came around and he kind of knew it was at the point where I needed help.
“Once I admitted I was in a bad way, they then helped get a team together because obviously I wasn’t in a fit state to do it myself.”
Ant revealed that his wife and best friend have been “brilliant” throughout the ordeal. The star now seems on the road to recovery, looking happy and healthy in pictures alongside the Sun’s Dan Wooton.
Taking to Twitter, the star thanked his fans for their support and well wishes following the publication of his interview in The Sun on Sunday.
“Have to say I’m overwhelmed by everyone’s love, support and well wishes today” he wrote. “Thank you one and all. I’m sending all my love back. A xxx”
