Carol Vorderman exclusively chats to us about flying, her Dolly Parton obsession and more…
In just a few months Carol Vorderman will be taking to the skies in her very own plane, Mildred, as she attempts to fly around the world all by herself! The former Countdown star, 55, only recently discovered her love of the sport before taking on the exciting challenge, and now the question on everyone’s lips is, can she do it? We caught up with the star at the Red Bull Air Race in Budapest to find out more…
You’re round-the-world flight isn’t far off, what part of the world are you excited to fly over…
So many places, but China as through my childhood and a lot of my adulthood it has been effectively blocked. Now, however, it is open for business and obviously will bring a lot of pleasure. I fully intend to make the most of it. When I was flying to Hong Kong (scheduled, not by myself!) a year or so ago I was just peering down imagining the wonders beneath our wings at 35,000 ft.
What will you do to keep yourself entertained when you’re flying on your own?
I love singing out loud do Dolly Parton in the plane so she’ll be on my playlist as well as some soul, Motown and happy songs…all ideas for a great playlist are welcome!
If Woman’s Own were to come over for dinner, what would you cook us?
You’d have champagne to start and many fine wines. Lots of great food, probably Italian and you wouldn’t want to leave until the very early hours. I’d have something in for breakfast, just in case we decided to see the sun rise! I love cooking Italian but also huge salads and healthy things to go with everything, definitely lots of veg. Do vegetables soak up alcohol? Not so sure they do, but let’s pretend.
If you had 24 hours to yourself, what would you spend it doing?
Dancing around and watching crap telly. I’d watch Netflix and a great series from beginning to end and drink the finest champagne. I am hardly ever by myself for 24 hours so I wouldn’t go out.
What’s your favourite holiday destination?
I’m not saying because then everyone would want to go there! Though in the UK I love Devon and Cornwall. I did the Coastal Path this summer, wow, it’s so beautiful! We walked 13 miles a day.
What would you say is your best personality trait?
Generous, I’m very very generous.
And your worst?
I have a low boredom threshold.
