The smouldering Aidan Turner returns to our screens as soldier Ross Poldark this summer. And to help you countdown to the start of Series 3, we have put together a list of 11 facts you may not have known about the man himself.
1.Poldark wasn’t his first period drama outing!
Aidan actually had a guest role on the hugely popular BBC series The Tudors. He only had two lines in the premiere episode, but that was all it took to captivate the period drama’s audience.
2. He was slapped with a pasty ban
During filming of Poldark producers banned Aidan from eating Cornish pasties. The reason? They feared it would ruin his enviable six-pack!
3. He started life as a tradesman
Before his meteoric rise to fame as an actor, Aidan actually earned his crust as an apprentice electrician. He worked alongside his father in his hometown of Dublin. Now that’s making sparks fly for an entirely different reason!
4. He’s often confused for another actor sharing his name
Aiden Turner – one letter can make a world of difference – is a British actor from US sitcom, All My Children.
5. He has an adorable nickname
The actor’s friends have given him the cute-as-a-button nickname of ‘Aido’. Aww.
6. His first acting role was less than glamorous
Aidan made his TV debut at the tender age of 18. The now global star featured in an advert for Bord Bia (Irish Food Board) promoting eggs.
7. He has a Twitter account dedicated to his luscious locks

8. He once played a blood-thirsty vampire
Aidan played vampire John Mitchell on the supernatural drama Being Human from 2009 to 2011. Just look at those fangs!
9. A superfan recreated scenes from Poldark using Playmobil
Not content with watching Aidan on TV, superfan Leon Hickmott from Newquay recreated scenes from the hit show. But this time his protagonists are Playmobil figures! Do you know which moment the scene above depicts?
10. Aidan was a gifted ballroom dancer growing up
Yes you heard that right. And the question that’s on our lips is WHY hasn’t he appeared on Strictly? His moves on the dancefloor were so impressive that…he came third in the National Championships aged 16.
