American actor James Gandolfini, who played mafia boss Tony Soprano on the hit TV series The Sopranos, has died of a heart attack at just 51.

Gandolfini died on Wednesday 19 June while holidaying in Italy. Though no official cause of death has been released, unconfirmed reports suggest it was a heart attack. His iconic performance and portrayal as the mob voss has won him critical acclaim, and the lovable thug character of Tony is regularly voted the best character in the history of TV.
