This is so emotional!
Chart topper Adele has always been vocal about her love of motherhood, and is even rumoured to be taking a ten-year break from touring in order to focus on being a mum to three-year-old son Angelo.
But the 28-year-old has now revealed that her journey to parenthood wasn’t all smooth sailing, and that crippling post-natal depression following Angelo’s birth in 2012 has left her “too scared” to consider expanding her family.
Explaining her ordeal in an emotional interview with Vanity Fair the Hello songstress said: “I’m too scared.I had really bad postpartum depression after I had my son, and it frightened me…”
“I didn’t talk to anyone about it. I was very reluctant.”
The singer – who’s world tour ends on this week – went on to explain that her “obsession” with her baby son left her feeling disconnected from the world around her.
But luckily Adele’s loving partner Simon Konecki – with whom she recently celebrated a five-year anniversary – was on hand to offer words of encouragement. The 42-year-old suggested Adele spend time with friends who are also mothers. Recalling one of the conversations she had with these friends she said:
“One day I said to a friend, ‘I f***in’ hate this,’ and she just burst into tears and said, ‘I f***in’ hate this, too.'”
Eventually the singer revealed that she had to give herself permission for some much needed time out, despite her reservations about spending time away from Angelo.
“I felt very inadequate; I felt like I’d made the worst decision of my life,” she told her interviewer Lisa Robinson.
“Eventually I just said, I’m going to give myself an afternoon a week, just to do whatever the f**k I want without my baby.”
Adele: happier times
Despite what the singer has endured she revealed in an interview on NBC’s Today Show last year show that she has “never been happier”.
The 25 singer – who showed off an ‘Angelo’ tattoo inked along her right hand – also went to say that her little boy had made her a more emotional person “in every single way possible”.
She also spoke of the love and support she receives from her partner: “Being in such an amazing relationship with someone that’s so there for me and so loyal and is really part of my core now, that’s what made me write about everything I’ve ever done, because I’ve got his love.”
