Adele’s cousin has auditioned for The Voice UK.
Georgia Harrup, 27, proved that a great voice obviously runs in the family, when she vowed the judges with her version of the Ray Charles classic ‘Hallelujah I Love Her So’.
Georgia, whose dad Albie is the brother of Adele’s grandmother, said she didn’t actually know she was related to the singer until 2009 – and by that point she was already a huge fan.
She revealed: ‘One day my dad rang his family and asked how everyone was doing and they said, ‘Adele is on tour, doing really well’. He asked what she was doing touring and they said, ‘She’s that Adele’. He came off the phone and told me that the person whose album I loved was related to me. I couldn’t believe it, as she was always a massive inspiration to me anyway.’
Georgia has only met Adele once at a family party, but insists she’s not using the star to further her own career. ‘I didn’t want to push my career in her face so she felt obliged to help me,’ she said. ‘If she made contact I think I’d just sit there in a daze!’
Viewers can see Georgia’s audition on The Voice UK, this Saturday at 7pm on BBC1.
