Doctor A&S: ADHD

Q: I am really worried that my six-year-old daughter may ADHD. She is very difficult to control and has so much energy

A: Do see your GP because s/he can ask you the right questions and see if you need to be referred  to a specialist for a diagnosis.

ADHD, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, can shorten attention span, cause people to be easily distracted and be more fidgety. It can affect up to 5% of young people and affect sleep patterns.

Remember young children do have a lot of energy and this can be normal, but if you are finding things hard get some advice. A specialist can offer educational or behavioural programs and give you some support, so don’t feel alone.
