Q: Is it true I can travel for free on buses this month if I’m out of work?

A: Yes, the Government is enhancing a travel scheme to try to help people find work.The JobCentre Plus Travel Discount Card is available to those who have been without a job for between three months and a year, and who are claiming Jobseekers’ Allowance, Incapacity Benefit, Employment and Support Allowance or Income Support.

The Discount Card, previously offered half-price journeys, but has been revamped to offer cardholders free bus travel throughout January.

The card will cover over 70% of bus routes in England, Scotland and Wales, with all the networks below taking part:

  • Arriva
  • Blackpool Transport
  • Cardiff Bus
  • First
  • Go-Ahead
  • Kinchbus
  • National Express
  • Network Warrington
  • Stagecoach
  • Trent Barton
