Q: Winter is really taking its toll on my hands. They’re really dry and crepey-looking. What can I do to soften my skin?

Carole Parker, 49, High Wycombe

A: Like your face, your hands are exposed to the elements constantly – in winter that means freezing temperatures and central heating, which dry skin out. Give them an extra bit of TLC with a shea butter-enriched formula. I love L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream, £8, Debenhams.

With all those winter bugs around it’s tempting to go mad with the anti-bacterial hand wash, but the alcohol content can make dry hands even more parched.

If you’re still suffering, give them a deep treatment with Bliss Glamour Gloves, £36.80, Bliss. The lining contains olive and grapeseed oils to nourish worn hands. Leave on for 20 minutes for softer, smoother-looking hands.
