Apparently real life couple at the time Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears were considered for the lead roles!
Tom Cruise was also a favourite for the role of Noah but we are SO glad Ryan got it!!
The movie was actually filmed in reverse. All the older Allie and Noah scenes were filmed first and then Ryan had to lose 20 pounds of muscle during his Christmas holidays and shave off his beard to transform into the younger, fresh-faced Noah!
During filming Ryan and Rachel didn’t get along. Despite their intense chemistry on screen, behind the scenes they apparently fought so much that Ryan actually asked for another woman to come and run lines with him during breaks!!
BUT they couldn’t have hated each other THAT much as later they went on to date for over 2 years! They split up in 2008. Sometimes life just isn’t the movies…
Despite starring in Drive and Crazy, Stupid, Love the Notebook is actually Ryan’s most successful film to date! Even all those years ago it made $105 million, which is pretty darn impressive!
Rachel only had one night to prepare for her audition for the role but she still managed to beat Reese Witherspoon and Jessica Biel who were also considered for the role of Allie.
Ryan likes to take his roles SERIOUSLY! So, to prepare for his role in The Notebook he spent two months living in Charleston building furniture and rowing the Ashley River every morning. He even built the kitchen table featured in the movie! Now that’s dedicated!
Gena Rowlands, who plays older Allie who tells their story is actually the film director’s mother!
Ryan and Rachel won an award for ‘that’ on screen kiss! They got the MTV Best Kiss award and the Best Movie Kiss of All-Time by Entertainment Weekly in 2011!
