Call the Midwife fans are still not over the fact that Miranda Hart – aka Chummy Oakes (née Browne) – won’t be returning to the feel-good BBC drama.
So the latest news is bound to come as a shock. Miranda’s on-screen husband Ben Caplan – aka Sergeant Peter Noakes – has also called time on hit series after a five-year stint.
Making the announcement he said:
“I’m taking a break to concentrate on other things. But the door is very much open for both myself and Miranda, and I’m sure we’ll make an appearance again.
“It’s been lovely to have been there since the beginning, an amazing roller coaster ride, and I’m honoured to have been part of that whole journey, but there comes a point six years down the line that, as an actor, it’s good to keep my foot in with the theatre world and exploring other roles.
“Much as I love playing Peter Noakes, it’s great to go off and play some more edgy characters and show a little bit more diversity.”
The 42-year-old’s other acting credits include Band of Brothers, Judge John Deed and Whitechapel. He’s a man of many talents, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that he keeps good on his promise of making a potential comeback!
