The royals on the red carpet…

The Duchess of Cambridge turned heads in London last night when she attended the red carpet premiere of classic Broadway musical 42nd Street. Cameras popped and flashed at the Duchess arrived at the star studded event last. The production is helping raise funds for East Anglia Children’s Hospice, a charity which has the Duchess as its patron.

Kate, 35, chose an ankle length fit and flare dress by Marchesa for the occasion. She accessorized the red gown with a matching clutch bag and striking earrings.

The history of the royals on the red carpet

From a young Queen Elizabeth accompanied by the future Duke of Edinburgh to Kate and Prince William today, the royals are no stranger to red carpet events. Royals and red carpets are a style match made in heaven. Whatever the occasion – from award ceremonies to film premieres – the royals always have a striking gown on hand to dazzle the waiting crowd. A pair of gem drop earrings or a bedazzled clutch definitely takes things up another notch. Add in a dash of regal poise. AND an elegant up do’ and you’ve got all the hallmarks of a royal red carpet moment to remember.
