We can't believe this!

When it comes to red carpet soirées there are few events that couldn’t benefit from the regal presence exuded by the Duchess of Cambridge. But apparently it’s exactly Kate’s grace and poise that could see her left off the invite list, if the latest rumours are to be believed.

‘Senior staff’ at the Baftas are said to be concerned that an appearance from The Duchess at the annual star-studded celebration of achievements in film could she her ‘outshine’ A-list nominees and attendees. This is according to The Sun, who also revealed that Bafta chief executive Amanda Berry is attempting to remedy the situation.

A source within the film academy told the paper:

“[William] made it clear he wants to go this year and even bring Kate. It would be a real show of his commitment towards Bafta and create headlines around the world.”

Despite not attending the ceremony for the last two years as the President of the Academy the Duke of Cambridge has a firm place as one of the event’s guests of honour. And it seems that the Prince may use this prestige to his advantage.

A second source within Bafta told The Sun:

“Most people think William will end up getting his way by bringing Kate.

“But it’s created awkwardness because her attendance shouldn’t have been in question.”

The rumours have been branded as “completely untrue” by a spokesperson for the Bafta. They also confirmed that an invitation had been extended to both members of the royal couple.

A spokesman told The Sun:

“We would be delighted to welcome Their Royal Highnesses any year they are able to attend.”

The Baftas take place on February 12th. And Brits including Emily Blunt and Naomi Harris are up for the Best Actress and Supporting Actress gongs respectively.
