The Duchess of Cambridge is one of the most photographed faces in the world. But Kate wasn’t always destined for a royal life, she was just like you or I before she married Prince William! Below, we’ve discovered 12 things you didn’t know about the Duchess of Cambridge…
She was born on the 9 January 1982 and grew up in Berkshire. Kate studied art history in Scotland at the University of St Andrews, where she met Prince William in 2001. Their engagement was announced on 16 November 2010 (William gave Kate his mother Princess Diana’s ring), and she attended several royal events before they married on 29 April 2011 at Westminster Abbey. She wore one of the most stunning royal gowns ever by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen.

Kate admitted in her first solo television interview that she made the queen homemade, yes homemade, chutney for Christmas! The girl’s got guts! Kate said, “’I can remember being at Sandringham, for the first time, at Christmas. And I was worried what to give the Queen as her Christmas present. I was thinking, “Gosh, what should I give her?”‘ She continued: ‘I thought, “I’ll make her something.” Which could have gone horribly wrong. But I decided to make my granny’s recipe of chutney.” Go Kate!
Kate got married to William on St. Catherine’s Day with the day declared a bank holiday in the United Kingdom in 2011!
Additional insider info! Despite the grand affair watched by millions and the iconic designer wedding dress, Kate did her own make-up on her big day, so she felt as comfortable and confident on the occasion as possible.
