Coronation Street actor Roy Barraclough, who played landlord Alec Gilroy in the soap, has sadly died at the age of 81.
Roy’s agent revealed today that the much-loved actor had passed away after battling a short illness.
Roy Barraclough played Rover’s Return landlord Alec Gilroy in Coronation Street over the course of 25 years. He made his debut on the cobbles in the early 1970s, before becoming a regular from 1986 until 1992. Barraclough also returned in 1996 and spent another two years on the soap.
The actor, whose work also included ‘Cissie and Ada’ with comedian Les Dawson, received an MBE in 2006.
The well loved TV star reportedly passed away at the Manchester hospice he supported for over 20 years. Gavin Barker Associates said in a statement: ‘Our client Roy Barraclough has passed away today aged 81 after a short illness.’
