She’s a veteran presenter of the popular daytime programme Loose Women, but Ruth Langsford has recently made a surprise announcement about her future on the show.

The Loose Women host revealed on Wednesday’s show that she would be leaving the programme. But don’t fear! Ruth is only heading off for a few months, to present This Morning over the summer whilst Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield take a break.

The TV presenter will be co-hosting the morning show with husband Eamonn Holmes for the duration of the summer. The pair regularly step in for Phil and Holly on Fridays to take charge of This Morning, but will be taking up a permanent place on the sofa over the summer months.

Ruth made the announcement on Wednesday’s episode of This Morning, saying “That is it for today, that’s also it from me for a few months.”

The audience were visibly shocked and confused by the admission, but Ruth reassured them she’d be back.

She said, “But don’t worry, I’m just nipping off to the other studio, I’ll be on This Morning for the summer with Eamonn. I will be back though!”

The revealing news comes just days after Ruth spoke openly on the show about her father’s dementia. The discussion came about because the Loose Women were chatting about Engelbert Humperdinck’s wife, who also has the disease.

Ruth, getting visibly upset, admitted that one of the hardest parts of seeing her father go through dementia was how it affected her mother.

She said, “For me watching my father with Alzheimer’s I was grieving and losing my dad,” explained Ruth. “But you have to remember that my mum was losing the love of her life – the young man that she married and had kids with.”
