The first official royal baby photos are here!
And it would appear that Kate and Wills are keen to show the world that they won’t be dictated by royal tradition.
Dressed in a £46 dress from maternity brand Seraphine, relaxing in her parents’ country home with Wills, baby George and Lupo the dog, Kate allowed us the first snapshot into her life as a new mum.
A little dimly lit and shot by Kate’s dad Micheal Middleton, rather than the high-profile royal photographs Sir Cecil Beaton and Lord Snowdon, the photos are a world away from posed royal portraits of the past.
Ian Llyod, royal author and photographer, told the BBC: ‘This photo shows the Middleton’s home, the dogs – a solid family. It’s showing them as a new unit, not just mum and baby.
‘It’s suitable for the time. If, like Diana, there was jewels, diamonds and it was all very posed it might not have been relevant.’
In an interview with CNN yesterday, Wills talked of how he wanted to be a ‘hands-on dad’ – a concept that is proving true already.
They couple have recently revealed they are not hiring a nanny, instead accepting help of Kate’s mum Carole. William also recently announced he was stepping down from the RAF to spend more time with Kate and their new arrival.
Kate, on the other hand, is staying out of the limelight completely while she bonds with her new son, and was reported to have returned home to Anglesey with Carole and George yesterday.
Comparisons between Diana and Kate are inevitable and will no doubt continue, but with each new event that unfolds we are being shown a very different Royal family.
Those still hankering after some professional shots will have to wait until George’s christening, which is expected to take place in October.
As for the picture itself, we think Kate and baby George look absolutely beautiful. Take a bow Mr Middleton, you’ve done a great job!
