On Sunday night, actress Kym Marsh won the Best Female Dramatic Performance award at the British Soap Awards for her amazing role in one of Coronation Street’s most-talked about storylines.

The 40-year-old plays Michelle Connor in the popular ITV soap. In recent months, the actress has tackled a heart wrenching storyline that has seen her character lose their baby son Ruari to a stillbirth.

Kym revealed that the scenes were incredibly difficult to film for her personally, as she herself had suffered a stillbirth. The mother-of-three lost her baby boy, who she named Archie.

“At times I was transported back to a place I was trying to get away from” Kym said about filming the challenging scenes.

The emotional storyline in the soap left many viewers in floods of tears, and Kym received widespread praise for her performance in the role. At the British Soap Awards however, it was Marsh’s emotional award acceptance speech that had viewers tearing up at home watching on Tuesday night.

Taking to the stage in front of the star-studded crowd, the actress chose to dedicate the award to her late son. As the actress accepted her award for her outstanding performance she said:

“Thank you so much, this means so much to me. It was perhaps the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to do in my career. It took us back to places that we never really wanted to go to again but we did because we wanted to tell the story. As we are sitting here enjoying ourselves someone is losing their baby. I’m so proud of the show for telling the story in its entirety, reaching out to people and breaking the silence and the taboo. To my partner Matthew, thank you for putting up with my moods. My wonderful children, David, Emily and Polly you’re the reason I smile everyday. I’d like to dedicate this to my son Archie.”

The actress received rapturous applause and praise from fans on social media following her speech.

Kym looked stunning on Sunday night in a navy blue lace gown. The Coronation Street star later took to Twitter to share her gratitude for the support from all of her friends, family and fans. She wrote, “Thank you so much to everyone for your very kind comments last night and for all of your support.”
