Viewers weren't impressed by this mistake!

Actress Michelle Keegan is currently appearing in the ITV drama ‘Tina and Bobby’ where she plays the wife of football legend Bobby Moore. However, it seemed that Michelle may still have a thing or two to learn about the beautiful game after she made an awkward mistake on live TV whilst promoting the show.

The blunder occurred when the former Corrie actress appeared on the BBC Breakfast sofa to promote her upcoming work. Her response to a question about Tina and Bobby’s relationship went off without a hitch:

“I suppose in some ways they were the first so-called celebrity couple weren’t they?” Michelle said.

But when it came time to testing her knowledge on the 1960s footballing scene, Michelle made the ultimate clanger.

“Back in the sixties people didn’t really know anything about football,” she said. “It wasn’t really a major sport back then,” she added.

Oops. Michelle seems to have forgotten the fact that the then England Captain – no less than Bobby Moore himself – led the country to victory in the World Cup in 1966.

Viewers and football fans across the country were quick to leap on Michelle’s gaff. Taking to Twitter to give the actress a thorough dressing down.

The 29-year-old was forced to defend herself over the slip-up after the backlash from fans.

She explained to Metro, “It was early in the morning and the words just didn’t come out the way I wanted.”

“Of course I know football was a big deal in the 1960s – England won the World Cup. What I meant was back then, footballers didn’t have the celebrity status they have now.”

“It was a different world for Tina and Bobby – they were football’s first golden couple.”
