The TV presenter and Your Face Sounds Familiar contestant has confessed that he went through a dark time a few years ago which saw him turning to exercise in a bid to make himself feel better.
Matt, 30, said: ‘My family have had a history of depression and stress and bipolar disorder. I had a really bad period of my life in my twenties where I had depression and to get me out of that I started to run and started to do lots of exercise.’
And the cheeky welsh chap will be doing his best to raise money for the Mind charity (who help people with mental health issues) over his six weeks on the new ITV show. Each week contestants – also including Emmerdale’s Natalie Anderson and Bobby Davro – will perform as different musical artists.
Matt added: ‘I thought I’d raise some money for the charity and … end the s***ty stigma that comes with it, because people are afraid to admit that they’ve had some problems. Right now I’m cool, I do lots of exercise, I enjoy my job, I’m aware of my mind.’
Good for you Matt!
