In honour of baking legend Mary Berry’s 80th birthday, Stork and Ruth Clemens of The Pink Whisk partnered to create an impressive eight-tiered showstopper celebration cake! The cake honours Mary’s countless baking triumphs, with each layer representing a different decade of Mary’s life.

The Tiers of the Cake:

  • Tier 1 – 12” Fruit Cake – 1940’s Community collaboration fruit wedding cake
  • Tier 2 – 11” Lemon Gin and Elderflower Drizzle Cake – the 1950’s saw the Gin & Tonic and Champagne cocktails rise to fame and become the drink of choice by no less than James Bond.
  • Tier 3 – 10” 1960’s pattern decorated Madeira cake
  • Tier 4 – 9” Black Forest Gateaux cake – true 1970’s baking!
  • Tier 5 – 8” Orange Sponge cake – decorated with 1980’s fluro icing
  • Tier 6 – 7” Victoria Sponge Cake – The holy grail of 1990’s baking – a soft light and fluffy Victoria Sponge filled with jam and buttercream finished with a dusting of icing sugar
  • Tier 7 – 6” Chocolate Fudge Cake – chocolate baking for the 2000’s
  • Tier 8 – 5” Piñata Cake for 2010’s the rise to fame of the surprise Piñata cake – hiding a chocolate sweet treat in the middle

Fun Facts

  • The production of this cake took a staggering 28 hours in total – with 12 hours spent baking and 16 hours assembling and decorating
  • A total of 42 eggs were used in the baking of this cake
  • More than 3kg Stork was used creating and icing the cake
  • Once assembled the eight-tiered cake weighs a hefty 16.5kg
