Terrified Coronation Street star Liz Dawn nearly died after suffering a heart attack on holiday.
The actress, 73, has spoken out about the shocking ordeal, saying she’s determined to fight back from the scare in honour of her late on-screen hubby Bill Tarmey, who played Jack Duckworth in the soap.
Liz, better known on the cobbles as Vera, was abroad when she started experiencing chest pains. She decided to see a doctor when she got home, but suffered even worse symptoms on the plane back and needed the jet’s emergency oxygen to save her. She already suffers from incurable lung disease emphysema and has now had a pacemaker fitted.
Recovering at home, she said, ‘When I look back I can’t believe it. I nearly died. I feel lucky to still be here.’
She also paid tribute to Bill, saying, ‘If he was still here he would have been the first one I would have picked up the phone and spoken to.
‘I miss him so much. He was the kindest, warmest and most generous person I have ever known.’
