It’s one of every parents worst nightmares – having to break the news to your children that their mum or dad has passed away.

But it’s something that TV personality Jeff Brazier had the horrible task of doing when Jade Goody died back in 2009. The pair had two children together, Bobby and Freddy. The young boys were just four and five when Jade lost her battle with cervical cancer at the age of 27.

Jeff explained that both he and Jade discussed how they would break the news to their sons before she passed away.

He admitted that, “She didn’t want to tell them, but she knew she had to do it because she wanted them to know the truth. The thought of that always reduces me to tears.

But when the time finally came, the father revealed that his young boys knew something had happened before he had a chance to explain.

He said, “I wasn’t sure how to do it. I waited until bedtime and called them outside [in the garden]. In the end I didn’t need to say anything because the stars were out and they said: ‘Is that one mummy?”

“They knew.”

Jeff Brazier and Jade Goody’s children now…Now 12 and 13, the boys seem happy and well adjusted having been brought up single handedly by their Dad.

The boys regularly feature on their dad’s Instagram, and we can’t believe how quickly they’ve grown up.

Now Jeff is keen to use his experiences to help others. He now regularly coaches others through grief with lectures and books. And he’s recently released a book, The Grief Survival Guide, in order to help other people through one of the most difficult times in their lives.

The TV presenter also campaigns to try and make sure no one goes through the same thing his family did, by raising awareness about the prevention of cervical and testicular cancer.
