But what prompted the decision?
Singer Jamelia has been axed from hit daytime talk show Loose Women, according to The Sun. The decision followed comments she made about plus-size women earlier this year.
The 35-year-old former panellist sparked controversy when she said that obese women ‘should feel uncomfortable’ about their size, before adding that high street stores shouldn’t stock clothing to meet their needs. Back in April she said the following:
“I do not think it’s right to facilitate people living an unhealthy lifestyle. In the same way I don’t believe that a size zero should be available – it’s not a healthy size for an average woman to be.”
“Yes, have specialist shops, but you should feel uncomfortable if you are unhealthy.
“To be available in every High Street store, I don’t think that’s right,” she continued.
It was these comments that finally drove the show’s producers to remove Jamelia from the Loose Women line-up.
“Jamelia really annoyed bosses with her comments on high street shops selling bigger clothes,” a source told the paper.
“The show is often close to the bone but those comments were the final straw.
The source continued:
“Loose Women’s viewers come in all shapes and sizes and the producers don’t want them to be offended.”
Viewers have given mixed reactions to the news of Jamelia’s imminent departure.
