Prince Harry at the London Marathon 2013The spring sun shone, the crowds gathered in their thousands as 37,000 runners took part in the London marathon amid heightened security after the Boston bombings the week before.

Wearing black ribbons pinned to their running vests the runners listened as Prince Harry praised the British spirit for taking part and said: ‘It’s fantastic, it’s typically British. People have been saying they haven’t seen crowds like this for eight years.’

Fancying running in next year’s marathon? Places are in demand, but here’s how to enter: The online ballot for the 2014 Virgin London Marathon will open on Monday, April 29.

Those who enter via the ballot will have to wait until October to hear if they’ve got a place in the 2014 race. Enter the ballot on the official website here.

Good luck!
